Everybody loves food. It nourishes, delights and unites us. Perhaps that’s why the members’ recipe feature in Michigan Country Lines has been a favorite for decades.

“To build on that strength we launched MI Co-op Kitchen– an interactive digital cooking community exclusively for Michigan co-op members,” explains Casey Clark, director of communications and marketing at MECA.

MI Co-op Kitchen launched on May 7, 2016 and has since gathered 82 registered users who have created a profile and 22 recipes in its first month. Aimed at creating community and engaging younger members, the site offers innovative ways to interact with cooking based on millennial cooking trends.

“How to” videos of contest-winning dishes are created and posted to MI Co-op Kitchen through YouTube. These 30-second videos can also be shared on social media sites, such as Facebook, to allow more members to gain a visual and interactive recipe experience.

MI Co-op Kitchen also offers a Guest Chef category that takes a human interest angle to cooking. This featured category puts a focus on interesting people and their stories, as well as their favorite dishes.

An accompanying Pinterest page seeks to make content more shareable and reach a wider, more social media savvy audience.
