Cloverland Electric Cooperative in the Upper Peninsula joins Michigan Electric Cooperative Association
All of Michigan’s electric cooperatives, serving more than half of the state’s 83 counties, now unified under MECA
LANSING, Mich. — Cloverland Electric Cooperative has officially joined the Michigan Electric Cooperative Association (MECA), bringing all of Michigan’s member-owned electric cooperatives together under a single statewide association.
With Cloverland’s membership, every electric cooperative serving Michigan residents and businesses is now part of MECA, strengthening collaboration, coordination and advocacy on behalf of cooperative members across the state.
“Electric cooperatives are built on the principle that we are stronger when we work together,” said John Kran, CEO of MECA. “Cloverland’s membership reinforces a unified voice for Michigan’s co-ops and enhances our ability to serve communities, advocate for smart energy policy and support reliability and affordability for members statewide.”
Cloverland Electric Cooperative serves 34,000 members across Michigan’s eastern Upper Peninsula and will collaborate with fellow cooperatives on issues including grid reliability, workforce development, energy policy, emergency response coordination and member engagement.
“Joining MECA strengthens collaboration among Michigan’s electric cooperatives and benefits members across the state,” said Mike Heise, president and CEO of Cloverland Electric Cooperative. “Sharing ideas, knowledge and perspectives helps co-ops better serve their members and prepare for future challenges through careful long-term planning for the communities we proudly serve.”
MECA represents Michigan’s nonprofit, member-owned electric cooperatives, which collectively serve members in more than half of Michigan’s 83 counties. Together, Michigan’s cooperatives are focused on keeping the lights on, preparing the grid for the future and ensuring local voices remain at the center of state energy decisions.
