On a perfect summer day, Midwest Propane’s “Fueling the Fight Charity Golf Scramble” at Pilgrim’s Run in Pierson raised $12,613 to support services provided through the Susan P. Wheatlake Cancer and Wellness Center.

“Cancer touches so many lives, and as a locally-owned and operated company we wanted to do something meaningful to help individuals and families who face this devastating disease,” says Bob Hance, president/CEO of Midwest Energy Cooperative. “Susan has used her own personal experiences to create an amazing support center, and we are proud to honor her life and work with this event.”

Located at the Mecosta County Medical Center in Big Rapids, the Center provides comprehensive sources of assistance to those seeking cancer and wellness information and support.

Corporate teams participating in the event included Ann Marie Limousine, C.A. Barth Farms, Dykema, F.C. Wheatlake, Great Lakes Energy, ITC Holdings Corp., Justin Michael Hance, Oracle Storage Solutions, Power Line Supply, RESCO, Spartan Renewable Energy, Utility Supply & Construction, and Wolverine Power.

Additional funds were raised through hole sponsorships, purchased in honor or memory of someone who has experienced cancer. Hole sponsors included most of the teams listed above, plus: Craig & Brenda Borr, Consumers Energy, Dueco, EnerVision, Green Leaf Tree Service, Martin & June Hillert, Michigan Electric Cooperative Association, Propane Resources, and Utilities Telecom Council.

The event is part of Midwest Propane’s campaign to raise money for cancer care and services. Funds raised through various activities through late summer and fall are donated to local cancer services across the service territory. Midwest Propane is a subsidiary of Midwest Energy Cooperative, serving over 6,500 customers across 17 Michigan counties in Michigan, northern Indiana and northern Ohio.
